Historic Door from Tudor Court
This unusual door was removed from one of the apartments in Tudor Court approximately 20 years ago. Tudor Court was originally constructed as a hunting lodge for King Henry VIII and later converted into residential apartments. The door was located in one of the converted stable blocks.
It is believed that the door may have originally come from St George’s Church, which stands adjacent to the Tudor Court estate. The current church building dates to 1865, but the site has a much older history, with records mentioning a church there as early as 1293.
St George’s has long-standing royal connections. It is known that Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, Catherine Parr, and Queen Elizabeth I all worshipped at the church. Nell Gwynn and Queen Elizabeth I are also recorded to have stayed at Tudor Court during its history.
The door, with its distinctive design and likely ecclesiastical origins, offers a tangible connection to the rich royal and religious heritage of the Tudor Court estate and its surroundings.
