Here at Historic Doors we don’t just provide doors for your home. We have provided doors for several different theatre and film productions. For a variety of reasons set designers often prefer to work with reclaimed doors and architectural salvage. We’ve made a list of the top X
Reclaim has more character
For set designers, reclaimed doors have far more character than replicas. When we’ve spoken to professionals in the past they’ve said they always prefer to find salvaged props than those which have been made from new.
Why? Because whether it’s for a play, TV series or a film, directors want authenticity. They want the audience to believe their show is real. And what better way to do this than to use real items from the time. Can you imagine if Downton Abbey used plywood props made in B&Q? Well, they probably do, but not if they can help it. An authentic period drama, needs authentic period props. We’ve provided authentic reclaimed Victorian doors for many set designs before, the industry want the real deal.
It doesn’t matter how big the production
It doesn’t matter how big your production, whether you are designing a set for a school play, amateur dramatics society, or a big bucks blockbuster. Pirates of the Caribbean uses sets based on the 18th century. We could have supplied them with some of our Georgian doors, but they never asked! Reclaim is best for capturing the feel of a period. You might even be a YouTuber looking to create the perfect video for your subscribers.
